Presentation in sample forest for province of Drenthe
- LIFE Climate Forest is partly possible thanks to the five provinces that endorse the importance of climate-smart forest management. One of those provinces involved is Province of Drenthe. Last week, Deputy Egbert van Dijk visited one of the LIFE Climate Forest demo forests. He did so together with provincial officials during a tour of various green projects in the province.
During the visit to the demo site Landgoed Boschoord (of the Stichting Maatschappij van Weldadigheid), Martijn Jansen explained the project. The vitality problems in forests in recent years were discussed, and the expert forest manager of Bosgroep Noord-oost Nederland showed especially the LIFE measures taken.
Wildlife protection measures were widely discussed and the seeding trials with different tree species were also discussed at length. These trials are already showing that sowing pedunculate oak, sessile oak and beech seems to be a success with up to 10 seedlings per linear metre!
