In LIFE Climate Forest we have selected several demonstration forests and reference forests. Here we can show managers, owners, policymakers, and other stakeholders in practice what the possibilities of climate-smart forest management are, and how this small-scale and tree-oriented management type can be translated to a specific forest and situation.
The demonstration forests
In the demonstration forests, we will work with climate-smart forest management. Here, people can experience for themselves what this type of management exactly entails and what opportunities there are when you manage a forest in a small-scale and tree-oriented way. The forests are located in the provinces Brabant, Overijssel, Drenthe, Gelderland and Limburg and play an important role in the training courses and field trips that we will be organising in LIFE Climate Forest.
In these forests, the project team will also work on further developing and refining the management method. Among other things by testing and then monitoring it over the years.

The reference forests
The reference forests have already been managed for some time according to the principles that we are going to apply and further develop in LIFE Climate Forest. That is why we can already see the development of the forest and the first results of the management efforts. These valuable examples thus provide insight into what is possible and what this requires in management and policy.
Seeing and experiencing for oneself is important to be able to apply it to one’s own situation. That is why we explicitly use the reference forests in the project.
